Broke Again was written around a time when Not A Citizen’s Cristóbal Jimenez Van Cauwelaert was going through a difficult time in his life, with music being his escape. Somewhere between Brexit, Trump, crushed dreams and an economic crisis, this song was born.

Like most of Not A Citizen’s work, Broke Again is heavily influenced by visual big city references. This is why the video was shot in Hong Kong and directed by filmmaker Topaz Leung. It emulates that feeling of being a small fish in the big city, without using London as a reference to make for a more universal experience.

‘Broke Again’ is part of Not A Citizen’s debut album to be released later this year via Some Other Planet Records.
